Race Week…And the Taper

As the triathlon season begins to kick into full swing, each of us wants to do well at our races.  This is not only a function of how hard and smart we worked and trained for the race itself, but also how our final days and weeks of preparation affect the race.  A “taper” can make or break the race.

Racing, Running, and Riding!

This past weekend a few TYB Athletes took to the race circuit.  With the Reedy River 10K on Saturday and the final chapter in the Spring Series Cycling Races at Donaldson Center on Sunday.  Check out the results below:

Matt MorrisReedy River 10K - 38:32 – With a super solid 38:32, Matt raced a great and fast race to finish 1st in the M40-44 AG out of almost 100 age groupers.

Chris MorrisReedy River 10K - 44:27 – With a great start to his 2012 season, Chris followed up an impressive performance after a PR at the Green Vally 10 miler, with a PR at the Reedy River 10K to finish in the top 20% in his age group.

Jason WilliamsonSpring Series at Donaldson Center - With only a few cycling specific races under his belt, Jason leaned quickly and finished in the top 10 with an 8th place finish.  Next for Jason is this weekends GHS Centennial Half Marathon.

A Great Weekend of Racing

This past weekend, TYB athletes were busy racing across the state of South Carolina.  With the Myrtle Beach Marathon and Half Marathon, the Green Vally Road Race, and the Donaldson Center Spring Series, there were sure to be some great races and times posted.  Check out the results below:

  • Randy Parks – Myrtle Beach Marathon – 3:24:04 – With a great run over the entire 26.2 miles, Randy make his goal and took home a coveted Boston Qualifying Time!
  • Eric Stone – Myrtle Beach Half Marathon – 1:30:33 – With a crazy offseason and early winter, Eric put together a great last 4 weeks of training and came home with a PR of 1:30:33 – sub 7 pace!
  • Frankie Valle – Myrtle Beach Half Marathon – 1:39:14 – Again coming off some injuries over the winter, Frankie ran a 1:39 – 6 minutes under goal time of 1:45!
  • Matt Morris – Green Valley 10 Miler – 1:04:50 – Taking over two minutes off last year, Matt is well on his way to a great 2012 after running 10 miles at sub 6:30.
  • Chris Morris – Green Valley 10 Miler – 1:14:04 – With a solid race, Chris took over 2 minutes off of last years effort.
  • Randy Still – Green Valley 10 Miler – 1:46 – Using Green Valley as a spring board and training race for the Swamp Rabbit Half Marathon, Randy is well on his way to having a great Half in a few weeks.
  • Jason Williamson – Donaldson Center Spring Series – Racing in his first Cat5 race, Jason stayed with the field and led the field out on the backstretch.  Staying upright and having fun, Jason finished 17th out of over 50 starters.

The Greenville Triathlon Camp

TYB and On On Events are excited to host the upcoming Greenville Triathlon Camp in just over two weeks.  Taking place from February 24th – February 26th, the camp will deliver excellent technique tips, valueable information, and training techniques for everyone from beginner athletes who will be doing their first triathlon this year to veteran athletes looking to pick up valueable tips to improve throughout the 2012 seaon.

The camp will kick off with pool time Friday evening, spend most of the day on Saturday focusing on the bike, run, and core/strength, and finish Sunday with a transition clinic, Q&A, and a mock race.

The Second Half of the Goofy Challenge

With a half marathon on Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday, there is a reason they call it the Goofy Challenge.  A great sub 2 on Saturday and a 4:03 on Sunday leads to a very consistent and happy Ben.  Nice job!
